Self-promotion is not my interest.
My exhausting journey as coach comes with rewards far greater than trophies or treasure, accolades or atta-boys. It is for much higher rewards that I strive…
To see my athlete deploy with excellence on the field of battle.
To watch them win and lose with grace and dignity.
To observe their character transform…
To see their confidence grow.
For the sheer joy of celebrating victory with them - to the consoling encouragement only I can deliver on the sidelines of defeat.
To see the look in my athlete’s eye when they have achieved what they first thought impossible…
To see them many years after their tutelage with me - living lives of integrity and impact.
To know my athlete is a better performer and person today than before I started with them.
It is for these rewards that I strive each day to push myself, break myself and improve myself.
It is for these outcomes that I commit myself to continuing education and the relentless pursuit of excellence.
May I never be prideful in my knowledge or accomplishments because pride is the way of a fool.
May I always seek counsel from those greater than I because a coach who isn’t coachable is the most dangerous and ugly irony in all of sport.
May I come to each day fully prepared, totally equipped and ready to teach with passion, strength and love.
When I fail in character or action. I will admit fault and ask forgiveness
When I see an opportunity to do more than I am asked of, I will exert strong initiative and do - because that is what I teach my athlete to do.
If I am the first one on the practice field and the last one to turn the lights off, I will do it with joy - because my athlete is watching - and someday he or she will do the same.
No, I am not here for money, fame or personal accolades…
I am here to make a ridiculously massive impact on the human race by building men and women character. Those who as Teddy Roosevelt said...
